RESUMES FOR CITIZEN VOLUNTEER BOARD CONSIDERATION DUE DECEMBER 15

The Town of Pittsford has several citizen volunteer boards. These boards assist with the various functions of Town government and in many cases make decisions impacting key issues of importance to Pittsford’s success as a community.  Our citizen volunteer boards include:

  • Assessment Review Board
  • Design Review and Historic Preservation Board
  • Environmental Board
  • Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
  • Planning Board
  • Zoning Board of Appeals

Vacancies come up as members leave the boards or appointed terms end, and we currently have a number of seats up for appointment on a number of our boards.  Any Pittsford community member with an interest in serving on one of these volunteer boards is encouraged to send a resume for consideration by December 15 to:

Supervisor’s Office, Town of Pittsford, 11 South Main Street, Pittsford, New York 14534 or

bmehlrose@townofpittsford.org

Please indicate in your submission what board or boards would be of interest to you. Click the link for information on the Town’s various citizen volunteer boards or visit the “Volunteer Boards” link under the “Government” tab on the Town website homepage www.townofpittsford.org.

Leaf (regular schedule) and Yard Debris (altered schedule) collection extended

Posted:
November 30, 2017

LEAF (ON SCHEDULE) AND YARD DEBRIS (NO SCHEDULE) COLLECTION WILL CONTINUE AS NEEDED

Due to the late timing of leaves falling this season, Town crews will continue to collect leaves as needed (they will collect past the usual December 1 cut-off date). Use our online Leaf Collection App to find when leaf crews will be in your neighborhood; find it and more info on our Leaf Collection page under the Services tab at www.townofpittsford.org. Crews will be collecting leaves in piles, reusable containers, or paper bags.

Crews will also collect yard debris (in reusable containers or paper bags only) past the usual December 1 cut-off date but please note to get through the whole Town as quickly as possible before the first snow, yard debris collection will be ongoing and may not be on your usual weekly collection day.

Please remember to keep leaf piles at the edge of the road but not in it, to avoid traffic hazards, drain clogging and flooding. Please also be sure to separate yard debris from leaves, placing it in reusable containers or paper bags so it doesn't damage our leaf vacuum or cause injury to a crew member.

Town's Triple-A Credit Rating Reaffirmed

Posted:
November 6, 2017

Moody's Investor Service has once again reaffirmed Pittsford's "Triple-A / Stable" credit rating. The Town’s rating is the highest of any Town in the State of New York.

In announcing the reaffirmed rating, Moody's cited specifically the Town's

  • "healthy financial position and strong management"
  • "conservative budgeting"
  • "strong financial management practices"

As is standard practice, Moody's re-evaluated the Town of Pittsford’s credit rating in connection with the pending issuance of bonds; the Town is issuing bonds to finance its Community Center project.

The higher a Town’s credit rating, the less it costs taxpayers for public projects.

Town wins Exceptional Park Design Award for Athletic Fields project

Posted:
November 3, 2017

The Town of Pittsford has won the Exceptional Park Design Award for 2017, awarded by the Genesee Valley Recreation and Parks Society.

The award is for the Town’s Community Athletic Fields Project.

The Exceptional Park Design Award highlights projects of excellence.   The Society will present the award at its Fall Conference on November 17.

“We are grateful for this recognition,” said Pittsford Town Councilman Jared Lusk, who served as the Town Board’s lead for the project from its inception.  “From concept to design to completion, our athletic fields project brought together youth sports groups, residents, School District staff and Town staff to develop a community resource that is second to none.  These new and improved fields and related park improvements can now be enjoyed by more people, in more ways, and by those with varying abilities.”

The Town began initial work on its Community Athletic Fields Project in 2012, engaging LaBella Associates to assist in preparing a concept plan.  The project was developed to resolve issues related to unsatisfactory athletic field conditions stemming from overuse/excessive demand, the inability to take fields off-line to “rest” and regenerate, and grading/drainage issues while also addressing a need for improved accessibility to Town athletic fields for those with disabilities.  Town officials worked closely with Town staff, community groups, and the Pittsford Central School District in developing the plan to improve and upgrade Town athletic fields and facilities.

Voters approved funding for the project in September, 2014.  Construction began in the spring of the following year.   The Town made improvements to Great Embankment Park, Hopkins Park, and Thornell Farm Park.  It created the new Farm View Park along Willard Road.  The project encompassed upgrades to restroom facilities, drainage and irrigation, dugouts, outfield fencing, and parking areas.  New pavilions and playgrounds were installed.  As part of the improvements to Thornell Farm Park, the Town created the Pittsford Community Garden.

The Community Athletic Fields Project was completed in June of this year.  Councilman Lusk led the dedication ceremony on June 7.
